Introduction:
Welcome to the Events Committee!
This committee is responsible for organizing EWB activities in the Champaign-Urbana area. These include educational events like lectures and workshops, outreach events at local high schools and children’s museums, and social events like movies, bar crawls, and barbecues. Events in the past have included building a solar cooker, teaching Kids at Orpheum museum about fuel cells and solar energy, and lectures on the topics of green building, sustainability on campus, and global water resources. But the possibilities are endless!
We are looking for people who like to have fun, and want to see events they want to go to! Come plan the various social and educational events that EWB has on campus! We meet weekly in the EWB office (110a Engineering Hall) on Mondays 7pm-8pm. Stop by or attend an event!

Tom Pirelli and the Arial Foundation have revolutionized affordable third world housing with the creation of the Arial Home. The prefabricated modular design, and efficient manufacturing process have created an entirely new way to deal with the housing crisis in impoverished countries. Come hear about the new technologies and the inspiration to one of EWB's new research projects.
Thurs. Sept 25, 5pm, 165 Everitt Lab. Free Pizza and soft drinks provided.
ABB, based in Zurich, Switzerland, is one of the world's largest engineering conglomerate corporations. Come listen to ABB's work in the following areas:
- Overview of Power Delivery in the United States
- Recent trends for more efficient power delivery
- Recent trends in Renewable energy resources
- Opportunities to Engineers in Power
ABB is accepting resumes at this talk, so bring your resumes along and impress them with your environmental consciousness.
Sincerely,

Are you excited about cramming for finals? There's no better way to start off a long string of study nights than with a night on the town with your EWB buddies. Talk about sustainability and global water demand projections or the irony of the exothermic condensation of water vapor on your Coke that's freezing your hand. T-shirts are $10 but completely optional (they're from last semester). If you feel we don't deserve to have to stare at the shirts lying around our office for another year, tell Laura Fierce (lfierce2

Nicole Lamers is the former coordinator of the Global Studies in Education program in the College of Education. In July of 2008, she lead a team of 15 teachers to conduct a study in Pretoria, South Africa, where they probed the issue of water on the governmental, academic and community levels. Her talk will explore the political and cultural dimensions of the global water crisis, by providing perspective through studies on water issues such as the one in South Africa. This discussion will focus on the specific issues of development and community participation.
The event will be followed by an EWB-sponsored game of capture the flag on the main quad.
